After setting his next movie at Universal with Matt Damon attached to star, Christopher Nolan has set sights on the A-lister to fill out the cast, with sources disclosing that Tom Holland is in talks to join this ensemble.
Nolan is writing and directing the otherwise top-secret project, which Universal Pictures is releasing in theaters on July 17, 2026.
The upcoming feature, which does not have a title, is expected to start filming n early 2025, though Holland’s casting could prove challenging to production timelines.
The actor, best known for playing Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be busy with “Spider-Man 4” and potentially the next “Avengers” sequel over the next year and change.
In between stints as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, Holland appeared in the West End adaptation of “Romeo & Juliet” alongside Francesca Amewudah-Rivers.
This project reunites Nolan with the studio that backed his hugely successful historical drama “Oppenheimer,” which won the Oscar for best picture (and six other statues) and grossed $975 million at the global box office.
The three-hour, R-rated period piece was Nolan’s first time working with Universal, and in doing so, the acclaimed director severed a nearly two-decade-long creative partnership with Warner Bros., the company that has backed many of his biggest blockbusters including “The Dark Knight” trilogy, “Inception” and “Dunkirk.”
Nolan went directly to Universal for the “Oppenheimer” follow-up rather than shopping the pic around.
“Oppenheimer” employees a whose who of Hollywood talent, including but not limited to Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Damon, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek and Josh Hartnett. So, it’s safe to assume a starry list of A-listers could soon be joining Damon and Holland in this forthcoming feature.
