"The Night Manager" returning year has been set.
The BBC One show, which aired on AMC in the United States, premiered in 2016 and follows Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), a British ex-soldier who manages a hotel in Cairo and is approached for an undercover mission to bring down arms dealer Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie).
In April, the surprise announcement was made that "The Night Manager" season 2 and season 3 had both been renewed simultaneously as a BBC and Amazon co-production, with Hiddleston set to reprise his role.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the BBC has confirmed that "The Night Manager" season 2 is set to premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in 2025.
While the exact date has not been revealed just yet, their report also confirms that Olivia Colman and Alistair Petrie are set to return alongside Hiddlestone, reprising their respective roles as Foreign Office task force manager Angela Burr and Roper's associate Lord Sandy Langbourne.
The synopsis of the new season reads:"The Night Manager will pick up with everyone’s favorite spy, Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), eight years after the explosive finale of season one,".
While the exact date of the new season premieres is still unknown, the fact that the Tom Hiddleston show is confirmed to return in 2025 finally clarifies how long the hiatus will be between seasons.
The show was in production earlier this year, as confirmed in an October 2024 Instagram post by Hiddleston's co-star Camila Morrone, who joined the series as Roxana Bolaños. This could mean that it will be ready to premiere sometime in the first half of the year, but even if it doesn't arrive until December, the wait between seasons will not stretch longer than nine years.
The incoming cast of "The Night Manager" season 2 also includes Babylon's Diego Calva and Doctor Who's Indira Varma.
At the time of writing, it is also unknown when season 3 is set to premiere.
However, the fact that both seasons were renewed at once implies that the wait time will be much shorter. While modern series - including Hiddleston's Marvel Cinematic Universe show Loki - can sometimes have hiatuses that last two or three years, this still represents a much quicker turnaround time than the wait between the first two seasons.
Even though the hiatus is finally coming to an end before a full decade has passed between seasons, the return of The Night Manager has a lot to live up to.
The show was a massive success when it premiered, earning a Certified Fresh score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes alongside a nearly equal 88% audience score.
It was also nominated for 12 Emmys, winning two (for Music Composition and Directing), so there is a lot of pressure on the new season if it hopes to match the success of season 1.
