“Loki” star Tom Hiddleston has provided a disheartening update on the status of the hit Disney+ series and whether it will return for a third season — but says he’s OK if it never returns.
“I truly don’t know,” Hiddleston, 43, told Variety at the April 5 launch of Hulu on Disney+.
“There have been other times when I thought it was the end and I’ve been mistaken, but if this is the end, I’m so proud of where we ended up,”.
“Loki,” in which Hiddleston plays the villainous God of Mischief — who first appeared in the 2011 movie “Thor” — premiered in June 2021 and quickly became a fan favorite. It was immediately renewed for Season 2 last October.
“I’m really proud of [Season 2],” Hiddleston said. “We had a great time making it. To go from this lost, broken soul in Asgard, and be given a second chance and learn so much about life that he actually gives himself to protect other people, has been such an honor,” he added.
Hiddleston also shared who he would like to see Loki go head-to-head with in the “Loki”/MCU universe.
“The X-Men, they’re back in there, right? Wolverine’s in there,” he said, noting that he might dig up his old comic books so he could find some storylines for the pair.
He wouldn’t mind a battle with Daredevil either, who’s played by his former Broadway co-star Betrayal and friend Charlie Cox.
In February, “Loki” beat “Ahsoka”, “American Horror Story: Delicate”, “Black Mirror”, “Ghosts”, “Secret Invasion”, “The Mandalorian”, and “The Witcher” to win Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show of the Year at the People’s Choice Awards.
“Thank you so much. I am so grateful for this great honor,” Hiddleston said in accepting the award at the time.
“It is such a privilege to receive this People’s Choice Award from you. The audience. The people for whom we make this work and who allow us to do what we do. I’m so proud of Season 2 of ‘Loki’ as a performer and a producer.”
