Tom Hardy is considering taking a “major career break” after crime drama MobLand left him “in bits”.

Hardy, 48, will take a break after filming for the Paramount + series’ second season wrapped.

He plays Harry Da Souza, a fixer at the heart of a war crime between families in the gritty drama.

Sources have told MailOnline how the Brit is eager “to have a rest” and, as such, he would be “taking a sabbatical,” which could span many years.

The dad of three – who has also starred in the "Venom" franchise, "Havoc" and "The Dark Knight Rises" – previously underscored the impact of his physical on-screen roles on his body.

“I’ve had two knee surgeries now, my disc’s herniated in my back. I’ve got sciatica as well. And I have that… is it plantar fasciitis? Where did that come from? And why? Why?! And I pulled my tendon in my hip as well," he told Esquire UK. "It’s all falling to bits now, and it’s not going to get better.”

Earlier this year, MobLand was thrown into turmoil when police and fire crews were called in after a huge explosion.

Hardy’s character was seen holding a shotgun as a blaze raged around him.

Local police and fire crews were placed on standby as the dramatic stunt unfolded at the warehouse on the north bank of the Thames in Newham.

Alongside Hardy, the series features acclaimed actors Dame Helen and Pierce Brosnan.

Pierce takes the role of Irishman Conrad Hannigan, whose wife Maeve is played by Helen. The pair head up a criminal family in London, with Tom’s character acting as a “fixer” for the family – smoothing over their crimes and disagreements.
