 June 19 marks the 84th birth anniversary of the late actor Hassan Hosny, who is more than a comic genius.

He worked in 500 films and TV series and won outstanding appreciation and fame for his comic roles in several films.

Born in Citadel district, in 1936, he is also one of the most prominent and iconic comedian actors ever, having risen to fame in the 80th era of Egyptian cinema history.

His comic timing and acting are known and appreciated by the audience and the charismatic actor-comedian has induced fits of laughter among many Arab generations and many more to come.

The late star became a comedy icon through his performance on screen, with a career spanning more than five decades.

Hosny has also been the definition and benchmark of comedy for a long time. His entertainment works have made the world of theater and cinema laugh, cry and feel for years and still continue to leave their charm.

While in school, he developed an interest in theater and made his public acting debut at a school concert.

After his graduation, he made his cinematic debut with a small role in the Karnak movie, starring the iconic actress Soad Hosni and late actor Nour El-Sherif.

He made his breakthrough with "Sawak Al-Atutbis" (Bus Driver), in 1983, directed by the remarkable director Atif Al-Taib.

After "Sawak Al-Atutbis", he started getting recognized, and more prominent roles came his way. In addition to being a famous comedian in films, he was more well-known as a villain in various TV series.
