Today, August 18 marks the 26th birth anniversary of legendary Egyptian-French actor Gamil Ratib.
Ratib is widely regarded as one of the finest actors who graced Egyptian cinema.
Born on 28 November 1926 in Cairo, he was a recipient of France’s Legion of Honour in 1995 for 59 years of exceptional work in cinema and film.
In a career that spanned 65 years, Ratib starred in both French and Egyptian films and first appeared in a movie in 1945 titled “I Am the East.”
In the early 1950s, he joined "La Comédie-Française," one of the most popular theaters in the world.
In Egypt, the late actor is known for his notable roles in a number of TV series such as “Yawmiat Wanees,” “El-Raya al-Bayda,” “Al-Asdekaa,” and “Wajh El-Qamar.”
He also featured in Tunisian cinema and took part in many distinguished international movies, most famously the 1962 Oscar-winning “Lawrence of Arabia.”
The acclaimed actor passed away on September 18 at the age of 92.
