The world is commemorating Africa Day, which falls on May 25 every year. This year's Africa Day focuses on the continent’s unity, diversity, and progress. The day marks the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) on May 25, 1963.

It also commemorated the Africans' liberation movements which were a series of historic events with the ultimate aim of ending foreign occupation and raising a common consciousness based on solidarity and unity of the Continent.

On this date every year, the African states celebrate their Continent's independence and freedom anniversary by organizing several national activities that showcase the progress and impact of liberation movements on the African continent.

The day aims to symbolize the determination of the people of Africa to free themselves from foreign domination and exploitation, according to AU.

Africa Day is celebrated in various countries on the African continent, as well as around the world. This celebration was previously known as African Freedom Day and African Liberation Day.

In his message on this occasion, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry noted that the unity of the African countries and cooperation among them is the basis for overcoming any challenges they face, especially within the geopolitical tensions, and the multiple and successive crises that the continent suffers from including the impact of the Ukrainian-Russian war over food, energy along with climate crises, high inflation, and debt.

The African continent is currently facing many challenges facing such as the availability of drinking water and the ability to farm the land.
