It is based on Roald Dahl’s popular children’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and follows a poor boy named Charlie Bucket, who wins a golden ticket to tour the world-famous and heavily guarded chocolate factory run by Wonka.
Paul King will direct from the screenplay he wrote with Simon Farnaby, with prior writers including Simon Rich, Simon Stephenson, Jeff Nathanson, and Steven Levenson. David Heyman is producing via his Heyday Films. Luke Kelly is also producing, with Michael Siegel and Alexandra Derbyshire serving as exec producers.
This marks the third time Warner Bros has taken on the Wonka story, with the first version debuted in 1971 and starred Gene Wilder as Wonka, the second was released in 2005 and starred Johnny Depp.
