"The X-Files" Reboot in Works

The 1993 popular sci-fi series "The X-Files" is making another comeback, this time in the form of a reboot.

According to Bloomberg, a new version of the series is currently being developed at Disney, with Creed and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler serving as producer. 

This news comes after original X-Files creator Chris Carter teased the reboot, accidentally letting it slip on the On the Coast with Gloria Macarenko podcast.

“I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast, so he’s got his work cut out for him because we covered so much territory,” he said.

The original show spanned 11 seasons across two split runs: the original nine from 1993 to 2002, and two additional seasons in 2016 and 2018. 

"The X-Files" follows FBI special agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), who investigate marginalized, unsolved cases involving paranormal phenomena.

“It just feels like such an old idea. I’ve done it, I did it for so many years, and it also ended on such an unfortunate note,” Anderson said when asked if she would reprise her role for a new season after the 2016 revival. 

“In order to even begin to have that conversation [about another season] there would need to be a whole new set of writers and the baton would need to be handed on for it to feel like it was new and progressive. So yeah, it’s very much in the past.”
