Following the announcement of his new album “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” the Weeknd is planning to release its first single “Dancing in the Flames” this Friday.
The artist premiered the song during his “One Night Only” performance in São Paulo, Brazil, this past Saturday.
“Dancing in the Flames” will be accompanied by a music video shot entirely on Apple’s freshly announced iPhone 16 Pro, directed by Anton Tammi alongside director of photographer Erik Henrikkson.
Behind-the-scenes footage that debuted during Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” event on Monday shows how Tammi shot the music video on the new device, talking up its ability to record in 4K 120fps in Dolby Vision and its post-production capacities.
“Using iPhone 16 Pro is starting to erase the line between what’s considered a ‘professional camera’ and what’s not. And I think this is really really going to help young filmmakers coming up,” Henrikkson said. “I was very impressed with how iPhone 16 was able to pick up the strong highlights, the deep blacks, because we were shooting with very bright HDMI backlights hitting the rain and that was something I was worried about. ‘How will the iPhone pick these lights up, how will the contrast be managed, how will this look on the Weeknd’s face?’ And when I saw the results, I was blown away to be honest.”
Last week, the Weeknd announced “Hurry Up Tomorrow” as the third and final installment of his trilogy that began with “After Hours” and continued with “Dawn FM.”
On Saturday, he took the stage at MorumBIS Stadium in São Paulo, premiering new songs and bringing out special guests Anitta and Playboi Carti.
As part of that concert, the singer partnered with the U.N. World Food Programme to contribute funds from the show to the XO Humanitarian Fund to aid the global hunger crisis. One local equivalent dollar from each ticket went to this cause. Next month, he heads down to Australia for the final leg of his “After Hours” tour.
