Production wrapped on the highly-anticipated The Walking Dead spinoff series about Rick Grimes and Michonne, portrayed by Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira.

The creative team behind the series shared a statement on Twitter thanking the crew for their hard work bringing the fan-favorite characters' epic love story to life.

Currently set under the working title "The Walking Dead: Summit", the spinoff is one of several new spin-offs series in The Walking Dead universe announced back in July at San Diego Comic-Con.

The Walking Dead Universe includes "Fear The Walking Dead", which premiered in 2015, and the upcoming spin-offs that feature fan-favorite characters from the original series including "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" and "The Walking Dead: Dead City" which will follow Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

Principal photography on the series began in New Jersey in February. The series was based on a comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman. It consists of six episodes and directly continues where the main series left off with Michonne setting off in search of Rick.

The spinoff also tells the epic love story of Rick and Michonne Grimes, two of the original series' most beloved characters.

They are kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”.

Scott M. Gimple, Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead Universe, serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Lincoln and Gurira. Denise Huth and Brian Bockrath also executive produce the series.

"The Walking Dead: Rick and Michonne" will debut next year on AMC+.  The Maggie and Negan spinoff Dead City will bat first on June 18, or June 15 for AMC+ subscribers while Daryl Dixon follows fan-favorite Norman Reedus onto dangerous new ground later this year.
