"The Walking Dead: Dead City" Season 2 Gets Premiere Date and First Look

The premiere date and first look at season 2 of AMC's "The Walking Dead: Dead City" have been revealed.

"The Walking Dead: Dead City" will return on AMC and AMC+ on Sunday, May 4, at 9pm ET/PT.

The opening minutes of the Season 2 premiere have also been made available to watch online.

The "Walking Dead" spinoff series focuses primarily on returning franchise characters Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Given the history between the two, they make unlikely allies, reluctantly teaming up with the two facing the undead (and other threats) in New York. Sons of Anarchy star Kim Coates will serve as the big bad for Season 2, with other stars including Gaius Charles, Željko Ivanek, Mahina Anne Marie Napoleon, Lisa Emery, Logan Kim, and Dascha Polanco.

The official synopsis for the new season of Dead City reads, "The Walking Dead: Dead City follows the popular Maggie (Cohan) and Negan (Morgan) characters traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror. In Season 2, in the growing war for control of Manhattan, Maggie and Negan find themselves trapped on opposite sides. As their paths intertwine, they come to see that the way out for both is more complicated and harrowing than they ever imagined."

When the premiere episode of the first season of "The Walking Dead: Dead City" launched, it ranked as AMC+'s No. 1 season premiere of all time. 

Viewership for the series grew nearly every week during its first season, all the while the Walking Dead franchise continues to rank as a top performer across platforms and on AMC+, with each series landing in the top 10 seasons of all time in viewership. 

It remains to be seen if Season 2 of "Dead City" will continue this trend.

Eli Jorné serves as showrunner and executive producer on the series. Other EPs include The Walking Dead's chief content officer, Scott M. Gimple, as well as Cohan, Morgan, Brian Bockrath, Michael Satrazemis, and Colin Walsh.
