The case filed by South Africa a month ago on behalf of the residents of Gaza put the Court of Justice to the test by asking it to issue emergency judicial orders.

With the death toll in Gaza rising to 26,000 and nearly two million others displaced, the court found the situation serious enough to impose interim measures pending the expected final ruling.

Observers believe that the International Court of Justice's decision will put a lot of pressure on Israel and its allies, led by the United States, who argued that the case is completely baseless.
