Maggie Morgan's Egyptian documentary "The Memoirs of M. A. Draz" to World Premiere is poised to world premiere Tuesday evening at the 8th Aswan International Women Film Festival (AIWFF).
The film is set screen from 09:00 PM to 11:00 PM as a part of International Feature Film Competition.
The official synopsis reads: "Decades after his death, Noha ElKholy uncovers letters, diaries, and photographs left behind by her great-grandfather, the Azharite scholar Mohamed Abdallah Draz. Through this archive, she embarks on a journey to illuminate M.A. Draz’s life story, from his humble beginnings in the village of Mahallat Diyay, to his formative years in Alexandria, and his scholarly pursuits in Paris."
The cast stars Mohsen Draz, Sami Draz, Ibrahim Eissa, and Noha ElKholy.
Morgan directed the pic from a script she co-worte alongside Taghreed ElAsfoury.
Following the screening, audiences can engage in a Q&A session with the makers of the documentary along with Draz’s son, Mohsen, four of his grandchildren, and the movie’s producer Noha ElKholy, all of whom will delve into the challenges encountered during the movie's production, among other things.
The AIWFF is the first and only Egyptian festival dedicated to women's creativity, and the only festival of this size taking place in Aswan.
The 8th edition will take place between 20 and 25 April, showcasing films made by women and/or tackling women-related issues.
The festival will also host numerous filmmakers from Egypt and international scene, who will participate in workshops, seminars and talks.
