"The Legend of Zelda" Live-Action Movie Premiere Moves Up A Week

“The Legend of Zelda” live action movie is getting fast-tracked with Nintendo moving up the release date.

Nintendo exec and Zelda” series creator Shigeru Miyamoto announced on Thursday that the upcoming Sony Pictures/Nintendo title’s theatrical premiere is moving up May 7 to April 30, 2027.

“This is Miyamoto. I would like to let you know that the worldwide theatrical release date for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda has been moved up to April 30, 2027, from May 7,” he announced on X. “The team is working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible. There’s less than a year to go until release, so thank you for waiting.”

The release date was previously set for March 26, 2027, but was pushed back to May 7 due to “production reasons.”

In November, Nintendo revealed that production had begun in “a lush, natural setting,” sharing first-look images of Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Zelda.

Miyamoto’s latest update comes after Sony and Nintendo announced that they found their Zelda and Link in Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, respectively, for the Wes Ball-helmed movie, which was announced in 2023.

Based on the video game franchise created by Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka that launched in 1986, the story centers on elf-like warrior Link and Princess Zelda who team up to fight Ganon, a former warlord-turned-evil-demon-king, and save the magical land of Hyrule.
