HBO unveiled Wednesday the first look at the long-awaited season 2 of “The Last of Us”, featuring stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
The serirs chronicles the story of Joel (Pascal) and Ellie (Ramsey) as they navigate a world overrun with zombies infected with a parasitic fungus — not to mention the ruthless vigilantes, mercenaries and cannibals just as desperate to survive.
The first season of “The Last of Us” was adapted from the acclaimed 2013 video game of the same title.
Season 2 of the series is expected to follow the events of its 2020 sequel, “The Last of Us Part II,” which deals with the fallout from Joel’s actions in the season 1 finale.
Alongside Pascal and Ramsey, other returning cast include Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother, Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Tommy’s wife, Maria.
It also features newcomers Kaitlyn Dever (“Booksmart”), Isabela Merced (“Transformers: The Last Knight”), Young Mazino (“Beef”), Ariela Barer (“Runaways”), Tati Gabrielle (“Uncharted”), Spencer Lord (“Family Law”) and Danny Ramirez (“Top Gun: Maverick”).
Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara is making an appearance as a guest star.
Executive producers and showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann are also returning for Season 2, which is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television.
Other executive producers include Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells.
The second season of “The Last of Us” is set to premiere in 2025.
