"The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil" Remake in Works with Director James Wan

Paramount Pictures has tapped James Wan to direct its “reimagining” of “The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil.” 

Don Lee (Ma Dong-seok), the star of the original critically acclaimed South Korean film, is also attached to the project.

Wan has directed several box office hits including “The Conjuring,” “Insidious,” and “Saw,” many of which spurred franchises. 

He is also one of the only directors with two films that have earned over $1 billion dollars at the worldwide box office – “Furious 7” and “Aquaman.” 

Not everything has been a cinematic success, however. He most recently directed “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” a return to Atlantis that bombed at the box office. Wan has also produced “M3GAN” and “Mortal Kombat.”

In the original 2019 “The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil,” which premiered at Cannes, a gangster and a cop team up to ensnare a serial killer.

Brian Helgeland, the Oscar-winning writer of “Mystic River” and “LA Confidential,” wrote the original draft and will serve as an executive producer, with Shay Hatten (“Resident Evil”) writing the screenplay. 

Wan will produce the film with Michael Clear for his company, Atomic Monster.

Don Lee is also producing, via Big Punch Global, alongside Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller, via Balboa Productions, Chris Lee, via B&C Group, and Jang Won-seok, CEO of BA Entertainment.
