Dessil Mekhtigian’s FROM THE WORK OF THE DEVIL had a successful world premiere at the 44th Cairo International Film Festival’s (CIFF) Short Film Competition.

The film had two full-house screenings, the first of which was followed by a successful Q&A with the director. Additionally, the film had a third screening due to the high turnout at the previous screenings.

The film follows the story of a young woman who returns to Cairo after 10 years to organize an exhibition on Armenian photographers and realizes why she really came back amid the preparations.

“After three successful screenings at CIFF, what we must remember is that in search of an identity, Azade – The Armenian Egyptian main character – swings between photo prints, community, family norms, and the stories that lead them to arrive in Egypt and become a part of its history,” said the film’s director.

“The film is a search for the truth shifting between documentary and fiction. It reminds us of our heritage as Egyptians and how Armenians will always be a part of it,” added the director.

The film was written and directed by Mekhtigian. It was produced by Karim Mekhtigian, while MAD Solutions is managing the distribution in the Arab world. Dessil Mekhtigian, Ali El-Sabh, Maria Saba, and Lala Shamamian star in the film.
