Under the title "Virtual Heritage Experience - A Digital Bridge between Egypt and Italy", the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, Cairo, opened a virtual exhibition of virtual heritage between Egypt and Italy.
The exhibition came in the light of the fruitful cooperation between the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the Italian Embassy in Cairo to support the world cultural heritage, and to involve all groups and spectrums of society to learn about the heritage and culture of their country, in addition to introducing them to the civilization of other peoples and raising their archaeological and cultural awareness.
The launching of the virtual exhibition was attended by Moamen Othman, Head of the Museums Sector, Dr. Ali Abdel Halim, Director- General of the Egyptian Museum, the Italian Ambassador in Cairo, the Italian Cultural Adviser, a group of senior officials of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and Egyptian university professors along with representatives of the Italian Embassy in Cairo.
Dr. Ali Abdel Halim explained that this initiative comes within the framework of the strategy supported by both the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Italian Embassy to enhance the role of the virtual museum to spread tourism, cultural and archaeological awareness, through the use of digital art technology, which is the digital transformation to 360 degrees, and digital animation binary. 2D dimensions, and 3D interactive virtual reality, which is an important tools to enhance the importance of cultural heritage.
He added that this imitative provides additional opportunities for its preservation, through a virtual journey that allows the visitor to visit some of the most famous cultural and tourist sites in both Cairo and some Italian cities.
Dr. Abdel Halim added that the exhibition includes a new interactive practical application in 3D virtual reality on the common heritage between the two countries, through which the visitor can enjoy the city of Cairo and its tourist attractions, including the Pyramids of Giza and the Citadel.
Also, the visitor will enjoy a virtual tour of some Italian cities such as the city of Benevento, in addition to displaying a unique collection of pictures of Cairo, Rome, Florence, Venice, and Benevento.
The exhibition will be held on the second floor of the museum, and it will run until March 9, 2023.
