After announcing the death of the custodian of the Kaaba, Sheikh Saleh Al-Shaibi, at the age of 80, a ceremony was held today to hand over the key of the Holy Kaaba and the shrine of Abraham to Sheikh Abdul Wahhab bin Zain Al-Abidin Al-Shaibi, the 78th custodian of the Kaaba, as his successor.
Abd al-Wahhab bin Zain al-Abidin al-Shaybi al-Sadin is considered 78 since the conquest of Mecca during the era of the Messenger, and 109 since the era of Qusay bin Kilab. He is the grandson of Shaybah bin Uthman bin Abi Talha, to whom the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Take it, O Banu Talha, forever and ever. No one can take it away from you except an oppressor.” ".
The profession of guarding the Holy Kaaba, also known as veiling, is one of the most famous and oldest professions in the Holy Mosque of Mecca. People who do this profession are known as hijabah, as they cover the Kaaba from the public.
Al-Sadin is the only person who holds the key to the Kaaba, which is 35 centimeters long and made of iron. The ruler bears responsibility for everything related to the affairs of the Kaaba, including changing its covering, washing it, perfuming it with perfume, and opening and closing it.
