Dr. Ali Gomaa, former Mufti of Egypt, has sparked a battle when he made statements comparing the Sphinx's face with the face of Prophet Idris. This controversial statement stirred reprehensible reactions.
Dr. Gomaa has issued a news release, in which he asked Dr. Hawass to communicate with him and watch his program before assessing it.
But Dr. Hawass said that he watched Gomaa's program from its beginning to the end, adding that he was terrified for watching superstitions that did not relate to science.
Sheikh Gomaa phrased those superstitions from the tales and non-authentic sources , as mentioned during his program.
"We are surprised at such superstitions as they told by a virtuous sheikh (Islamic clerk)," the famous archaeologist remarked. "So, it was difficult to contact him after I had watched on his program TV."
Hawass added angrily he expected first that Dr. Gomaa phoned him before he made these statement which were not based on science at all. However, the latter pretended misinformation far from archaeology.
Dr. Hawass went on to say that he regrets to say that what he said is mere superstitions, affirming that some claims that he is the monopolist of science.
But those baseless claims disregard the fact that Hawass is a specialist at the era of the builders of the pyramids. He is one of three specialists who specialized at that era and its historical details.
So he responded to Gomaa's claims with historical evidence and proofs that could not be argued as they based on linguistic and archaeological evidence.
Hawass concluded that he was surprised at what Gomaa said about him as he is far from the scene and attempts to return to the lime light again. He slammed the former Mufti by saying it seems that "Mr. Gomaa" does not read the local and international media that are racing to interview me.
"My archaeological discoveries, scientific achievements and the documents that I present are the best ambassador to Egypt in the world," the archaeologist said.
He requested "Mr. Gomaa" to see the international programs that he was engaged, showing his argument with their anchors.
