Global pop star Taylor Swift has become involved in a new legal battle after her legal team strongly pushed back against a trademark lawsuit filed by a Las Vegas performer over the title of her 2025 album, The Life Of A Showgirl.
The case was first filed in March by performer Marine Wade, whose real name is Marine Flagg. She claims she had been using the concept and branding connected to “Confessions of a Showgirl” for years and argues that Swift’s album title infringes on her established brand.
The lawsuit seeks financial compensation and a court order preventing Swift from continuing to use the title.
Swift’s legal representatives dismissed the claims as “baseless” and argued that the lawsuit was an attempt to benefit from the singer’s global fame.
According to court documents, Swift’s team said the phrase “The Life Of A Showgirl” was not publicly used by the plaintiff until after the album announcement, claiming the performer later repeated the phrase dozens of times across social media while also using Swift’s music to promote her own shows.
The defense also pointed to the timing of the lawsuit, noting it was filed eight months after the album’s release, which they argue weakens the credibility of the complaint.
Swift’s lawyers further stated there is little chance audiences would confuse a globally successful album with a small-scale cabaret production.
On the other side, Flagg maintains that she has been building her “Showgirl” brand since 2015 through live performances, podcasts, and television-related projects.
Her legal team argues that Swift’s use of the title damaged her brand identity and diluted its market presence.
The dispute has gained additional attention after claims that the United States Patent and Trademark Office previously raised concerns over similarities connected to the title, something Flagg’s lawyers believe strengthens their position.
A court hearing is scheduled for May 27, as the case continues to draw attention from both the entertainment and legal worlds.
Swift’s album The Life Of A Showgirl became a major commercial success following its release, topping sales charts and setting streaming records on platforms, including Spotify.
