Acclaimed Egyptian cinematographer and actor Tarek El-Telmissany has lost his sight completely following a severe deterioration in his health over the past several months.
El-Telmissany, 76, is currently receiving specialized medical care at his residence in Cairo.
Source within the Egyptian Cinema Syndicate said the vision loss follows a prolonged battle with chronic health complications, including diabetes and hypertension.
Despite undergoing multiple delicate medical procedures and remaining under continuous specialist care, El-Telmissany's vision gradually declined before fading entirely.
Family members, including his cousin, writer and director Mai El-Telmissany, are providing ongoing support. The family has also retained a specialized nursing team to assist the actor in adapting to his daily routine.
The Syndicate source dismissed recent rumors regarding a decline in El-Telmissany's mental health, clarifying that he remains in a calm state of mind but has requested privacy and is not accepting visitors at this time.
Born in Cairo in 1950, El-Telmissany graduated from the High Cinema Institute, specializing in cinematography, and established himself as one of the most prominent directors of photography in contemporary Egyptian cinema.
His career had previously been impacted by major health setbacks, including delicate heart surgery and a subsequent stroke in 2017 that impaired his mobility.
In addition to his foundational work behind the camera, El-Telmissany successfully transitioned into acting, delivering notable performances across major cinematic and television productions.
His feature film credits include "El Sellem Wel Teban ," "Qadiyat Amn Dawla," and "Awqat Faragh".
On television, El-Telmissany appeared in hit shows such as "Mahmoud El-Masry," "Lahazat Harega," "Mas'alet Mabda,", and "Liqa' Ala El-Hawa".
