Taking newborn photo is art, details and automatism

Taking a photo of a newborn is an idea that appeared a few years ago, which is a beautiful memory for the parents and the child.

It was something several people had excelled in, amongst young photographer Youmna Kamal, who presented a distinguished photo session.

Kamal worked as a graphic designer and started six years ago a job that she loves and enjoys, which is photography. She won the prize for the best picture, for a landscape photo of Qarun lake.

For years she worked as a photographer, and shifted three years ago to taking photos of newborns and the moments of birth in the operation room.

Kamal shared with “SEE” how she manages to take photos of newborns and the fabrics she uses during photo sessions.

The talented photographer stated that she takes photos of babies aged from 5 to 21 days as they are calm and sensitive inside their mother’s womb, which enables her to take good photos.

She added that photographing a newborn is different from photographing the baby shower, birthday, or El Soboo' –the first-week celebration of the child's birth.

Kamal uses a set of fabrics, accessories and materials for the photo sessions.

‘I make sure that the clothes, materials and fabrics are cotton, lycra and soft on the child's skin as well as washed and sterilized, out of concern for them,’ she added.

The photographer noted that the second thing that she cares about is warmth, adding: ‘The most important thing is for the place to be warm, even more, I use the heater in winter.

* Wink and laugh

Kamal does a photo session from 3 to 5 hours, which is taken place at the newborn's house, which she arrives at with her equipment, special clothes and accessories.

The photographer stated that many things are done when doing the poses of the photo session, noting that the baby does much better things, like when they laugh or wink.

She highlighted that that if the child has a sibling, then it is better to take photos of the siblings together.
