Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, received today, Monday, at Tahrir Palace, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, where an expanded discussion session was held between the two sides in the presence of the delegations of the two countries.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department, stated that Minister Abdel Aati began the meeting by welcoming his Syrian counterpart, noting the historical specificity of relations between the two countries and brotherly peoples, expressing interest in continuing coordination and consultation through continued mutual contacts and joint meetings.
He stressed Egypt's position in support of the Syrian state in facing the challenges it faces, and Cairo's rejection of foreign interference in Syrian affairs, stressing the need to respect Syria's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, highlighting the importance of working to find a political settlement to the Syrian crisis in accordance with international references in this regard.
The official spokesman added that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration expressed Egypt's aspiration to restore coordination and cooperation with Syria within the framework of the Arab League, in a way that achieves the common interest of the two countries and enhances joint Arab action, pointing out the importance of activating the work of the Arab Contact Committee concerned with Syria, within the framework of seeking to help Syria overcome the challenges it faces and achieve the interest of the brotherly Syrian people.
