Prominent K-pop star Kyuhyun Super has been injured after a knife-wielding woman broke into a Seoul theatre dressing room.

He is currently starring as the lead actor in a Korean-language version of the Ben-Hur musical, which depicts the story of a fictional Jewish hero who was falsely accused of an assassination attempt by the Romans.

The woman, who is in her 30s, broke into the room at about 18:00 local time (09:00 GMT), local media reported.

Kyuhyun, a member of the boy band Super Junior, was visiting his fellow actors at the time and was cut on his finger while attempting to restrain her.

The police arrested the woman and are investigating where she got the weapon and whether she has a history of mental illness.

"Kyuhyun suffered a small cut on his finger, which was treated right away on site," the 35-year-old's celebrity agency Antenna Music told South Korea's national newspaper JoongAng Daily.

According to the police report, the assailant, who claimed to be a fan, was targeting the actor Park Eun Tae. She approached the actor before abruptly brandishing a knife. The situation escalated further Kyuhyun intervened to prevent the attack.

Neither of the duo had any prior acquaintance with that woman, making the motive behind the attack even more perplexing. Law enforcement officials are diligently investigating the incident, with plans to pursue additional charges of stalking against the arrested woman.

The incident highlights the growing concerns surrounding the safety of public figures and the potential dangers they face from overzealous fans.

The entertainment industry, accustomed to fan adoration, now grapples with the darker side of celebrity obsession, as incidents of violence against artists continue to make headlines.
