Osama Rabie, head of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) confirmed that the "Ever Green" vessel is still present in the Bitter Lakes, adding that a ruling was issued today to keep hold of the ship.

Rabii said in exclusive statements to Al-Hayat channel on Sunday that the court referred the issue of compensation to the competent court in order to issue a ruling.

The head of the authority stated that Egypt is requesting compensation amounting to $550 million, after $916 million was initially requested, before calculating the value of goods on the vessel.

"After we determined the value of the goods the ship is carrying, amounting to $775 million, a new compensation was determined," he pointed out.

Rabie stressed that what Egypt is requesting a compensation for the losses of the canal that resulted from the delinquency of the Ever Green ship, and not with the aim of achieving any gains, as the Suez Canal was jammed for 6 days due to the stranded ship.

The head of the authority indicated that work has been done around the clock for several days to end the congestion of ships outside the canal, indicating that the precautionary measures have increased on "Ever Given" after it was announced that it contained 100 containers of dangerous materials on board.

Rabie stressed that the guide on the ship had an advisory opinion, and if the captain requested to change the guide for whatever consideration, it would be changed, adding that the ship's pilot could have also asked not to pass the canal due to bad weather conditions, and his request would have been be fulfilled.
