Sudan Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariam Sadiq al-Mahdi headed on Monday to New York, ahead of the scheduled session of the United Nations (UN) Security Council on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) crisis.
In the same context, the Sudanese Minister of Irrigation Yasser Abbas urged the international community to practice pressure against Ethiopia in order not to proceed with the unilateral filling of the GERD.
On Sunday, Al-Mahdi discussed the peace process in Sudan and GERD crisis.
This came during her meeting with Troika countries representatives, Donald Booth, Envoy of the United States of America Bob Fairweather, Envoy of the United Kingdom, and Andrei Stansen, Envoy of Norway.
The Troika officials underlined the need to involve the international community in the efforts being exerted by the transitional government.
On her part, Al-Mahdi welcomed the visit of the Troika envoys, praising the efforts of member-states efforts and their commitment to promoting peace and stability in Sudan.
Moreover, the Sudanese minister reviewed her country’s position on the GERD and its request for holding a Security Council emergency session in this connection.
