The hugely popular supernatural series “Stranger Things” that has been running since 2016, is coming to an end.

Netflix shared Thursday a letter from the show's creators, the Duffer Brothers.

In their letter, the brothers revealed that the popular series will conclude after season five, noting the story arc for Stranger Things had always been planned out in advance with an anticipated length of four or five seasons.

They expressed their extreme pride with the results of what they've created, a smash series that helped many of its stars, including Brown and Finn Wolfhard, to stardom.

They also disclosed that season four “Stranger Things” will be split into two volumes.

The brothers also underline how the upcoming season was the most challenging chapter in the popular show, which arrives from nine scripts, over eight hundred pages that were filmed during nearly two years.

Season 4 took longer to wrap up than any previous season due to the Duffer Brothers were working on the series endgame.

“Stranger Things” started production on Season 4 in early 2020 but suspended shooting a month later due to the escalating coronavirus pandemic. It resumed last September.

The first glimpse of the season was released in February 2020 and teased the return of Jim Hopper, Eleven’s adopted father, who was assumed to be dead.

The hit sci-fi series will take place in the spring break of 1986, as Eleven returns to Hawkins for vacation so she could spend time with her friends and catch up with her boyfriend Mike.

It will also see the return of regulars Bobby Brown, Wolfhard, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Joe Keery, Gaten Matarazzo, Maya Hawke, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, and Caleb McLaughlin.

“Stranger Things” Season 4 will also feature many new cast members including, Jamie Campbell Bower, Eduardo Franco, Joseph Quinn, and horror icon Robert Englund.

In the letter, the Duffer Brothers promise that the upcoming season will be “bigger than ever”.

“Stranger Things: Part Four Vol. 1” will debut on Netflix on May 27 with Volume 2 coming less than two months later, on July 1.

The Duffer Brothers developed the series as a mix of investigative drama alongside supernatural elements portrayed with childlike sensibilities.

They set the series in the 1980s and created an homage to the pop culture of that decade.

Several themes and directorial aspects were inspired and aesthetically informed by the works of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, and Stephen King, among others, including several films, anime, and video games.
