Ahmed El-Dawy, a pioneer of stop-motion animation in Egypt and the Arab world, died Monday morning.
Prior to his death, El Dawy had been hospitalized after experiencing a reduction in platelet count, known as thrombocytopenia, and swelling in both his liver and spleen.
The late artist is considered one of the top pioneers of stop-motion animation and was one of the founders of this art under the patronage of the late director Dr. Zeinab Zamzam.
El Dawy leaves behind a rich legacy and an impressive list of animation credits, including the series "Stories of the Prophets," "The Promised and the Blessed," "The Three Friends," "Daq Daq," "The Child Juha," and "Ofa," as well as the films "The Potter's Dream," and "Children's Mischief," among other works that helped define childhood animation in the 1980s and 1990s.
