Russian cosmonaut Alexey Zubritsky, currently aboard the International Space Station (ISS), revealed the challenges and unique experiences of his space mission, including how astronauts prepare their meals while in orbit.

Speaking during the first episode of STARBOUND “The Road to the Stars”, a program organized by Egypt’s National Media Authority in cooperation with RT Arabic, Zubritsky described the long hours and limited sleep astronauts endure. “Sleep sometimes does not exceed two hours a day,” he said, highlighting the demanding nature of life in space.

He noted that the most challenging and awe-inspiring experience is stepping outside the main station for a spacewalk. “The moment you leave the station is far more astonishing than any photograph can capture,” he said. During his mission, Zubritsky carried out two extravehicular activities, one lasting an hour and the other six hours.

Preparation for a space mission, he explained, takes more than three years and involves extensive training, including practice flights simulating space conditions. Zubritsky emphasized that his mission was unique, requiring rigorous physical exercises to maintain stability in zero gravity.

On the topic of food, the cosmonaut explained that meals consist mainly of canned and dehydrated items, which are rehydrated with water before consumption. On special occasions, the crew prepares honey cake, which he described as their favorite treat.

Beyond the strict routines, Zubritsky shared that astronauts also find time for enjoyment. “We go out to enjoy outer space from outside the station,” he said, “but it is empty, there are no humans out there.”

Through programs like “The Road to the Stars”, audiences are offered a rare glimpse into the human side of space exploration, combining scientific insight with the lived experiences of those orbiting Earth.

Today, Egypt witnessed the exclusive premiere of “STARBOUND (The Road to the Stars)”, a joint scientific television program produced by RT Arabic in cooperation with Egyptian Satellite Channel and Channel One, in an event that uniquely connected the legacy of ancient civilization with the frontiers of modern space exploration.
