The Spanish Writers' Union has honored the renowned Egyptian archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass as the Man of the Year for 2024.8
Mr. Mariano Palacín, President of the Spanish Writers' Union, presented the award to Dr. Hawass during their visit to Cairo. The delegation included 45 Spanish journalists and writers. The ceremony was also attended by Hamdi Zaki, Egypt’s Tourism Counselor in Spain, and tourism expert Atiya Yamani.
He expressed his delight, saying, “Meeting Dr. Hawass has been a dream come true. He is truly the Pharaoh of Egyptology on an international level. We eagerly await his announcement of the discovery of Nefertiti’s tomb, which will be the news of the century.”
Tourism Counselor Hamdi Zaki noted, "During my tenure promoting tourism in the United States, Latin America, and Spain, I used cinema to highlight Egypt's ancient civilization. Dr. Zahi Hawass was a major supporter of my efforts and frequently visited Los Angeles, where I managed the tourism office."
Tourism expert Atiya Yamani stated, "The Spanish journalists' delegation was thrilled with their trip to Egypt and the honor given to Dr. Zahi Hawass at the dinner event, which was the perfect finale."
Dr. Zahi Hawass mentioned that the discovery of the Lost Golden City in Luxor was ranked the top archaeological discovery worldwide for 2021 by Archaeology Magazine. This recognition enhances the work of archaeological missions in the city, founded by Pharaoh Amenhotep III and flourished under the golden king Tutankhamun.
