Spain Declares Wildfire Emergency

Spain has declared a national emergency in the Madrid region and the neighboring province of Ávila after multiple wildfires spread out of control, forcing mass evacuations and a major emergency response.

The Interior Ministry said the emergency declaration will accelerate the deployment of resources and place the crisis under the command of the country's Military Emergency Unit.

More than 10,000 people have been evacuated across the Madrid region in recent days. Authorities also ordered 3,500 residents to leave their homes west of the capital, while thousands more were either evacuated or told to remain indoors in several municipalities in Ávila as rapidly advancing flames threatened communities.

Spain's largest wildfire is burning in Guadalajara province, around 100 kilometers northeast of Madrid, where it has already scorched more than 32,000 hectares.

Officials continue to battle multiple blazes as extreme wildfire conditions persist across central Spain.
