Sisi Follows up on Universal Health Insurance System Nationwide

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and several ministers and officials on Sunday to discuss the developments in the Universal Health Insurance System nationwide.

"Sisi met today with the PM, Minister of Justice Counselor Omar Marwan, Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Health and Population Dr. Hala Zayed, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Amr Talaat, Presidential Adviser for Health and Prevention Affairs Dr. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, and Chairman of the General Authority for Health Care Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky," Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady said.

Rady added that the meeting discussed the developments in the Universal Health Insurance System at the national level as well as the current situation to contain the repercussions of Covid-19.

Sisi issued directives for ensuring the sustainability of financial flows for the benefit of the Universal Health Insurance System. With that, the main goal of establishing the new system would be attained through providing treatment and top-notch medical services to all Egyptians, particularly those in need.

The meeting, led by Sisi, addressed the various axes of the Universal Health Insurance System, especially the legislative and organizational ones.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed the system's performance indicators in phase 1 governorates, reflecting the remarkable success and tangible results and attesting to the great demand, particularly in Port Said where the first official run of the system was made. Performance indicators in the other governorates that also went for the trial run were further presented, especially in terms of the number of units, centers, hospitals, registered citizens, and the distinguished medical services provided to them.

The status of mechanization and digital transformation, with regard to the infrastructure, networking, applications, databases, and technical support, was also presented.

In addition, the financial situation of the health care system and efforts made to maximize revenues and persify sources of funding have been discussed.

The meeting also touched on the partnerships made with major international health insurance companies to benefit from their expertise in this field.

The Spokesman added that the meeting followed up on:

- The current situation of the spread of the coronavirus at the local level,

- The ongoing cooperation and coordination in this regard between various national authorities,

- Efforts made to provide COVID-19 vaccine, and

- The ongoing discussions with major international companies to produce the vaccines locally.
