Rady: Sisi Receives Namibia's Ex-President in Cairo

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received today, Saturday, Sam Nujoma, former President of the Republic of Namibia, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

The meeting was attended also by Abbas Kamel, Chief of General Intelligence, and the Namibian ambassador in Cairo.

Rady said that Sisi welcomed the visit of Nujoma to Cairo, stressing close bilateral relations that the two countries enjoy.

President Sisi congratulated Nujoma on his recent receipt of the award of the Kimmit Boutros Ghali Foundation for Peace in recognition of his efforts and achievements in the field settlement of conflicts in the African continent, as well as for his long struggle for the independence of Namibia,” Rady added.

On his part, Nujoma praised Egypt's appreciated and diligent role under the leadership of President Sisi in supporting efforts to maintain peace and security in Africa and fulfilling the initiative to silence the guns in the continent by 2020.

The Namibian former president asserted the importance and weight of Egypt as a key actor in laying the foundations for joint African action, and for finding African solutions to internal problems and various peace and security issues in the continent.

He also expressed the appreciation that Egypt enjoys in Namibia and the African continent for its historical support in the struggle for independence over the past century.

The meeting also witnessed an exchange of views and visions on a number of African regional issues, especially the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

The former President of Namibia affirmed his country's support for Egypt's efforts through negotiations to resolve this issue in a manner that achieves the interests of the three countries.
