President Abdel Fattah El Sisi issued decree No. of 180 2021 to form the Grand Egyptian Museum’s board of trustees for three-year period under his chairmanship.
The board of trustees includes foreign members such as Japan’s Deputy Prime Minister Tarō Asō, Director of Kyoto National Museum Johei Sasaki, Chairman of the Saudi Space Agency (SSA) Prince Sultan bin Salman, Director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization.
Due to Sisi's decree, among Egyptian members are Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Minister of Culture, Minister of Finance, Director of the Library of Alexandria, former Minister of Antiquities Zahi Hawass, former Culture Minister Farouk Hosni, Hisham Okasha, Farouq El-Oqda, former governor of Egypt’s central bank, Eng. Mohamed Lotfy Mansour, and Journalist Sherif Amer.
The board is concerned with establishing public policies, making plans, taking decisions, and following the activities and works of the organization.
Moreover, the board meets once a year or on the invitation of the president. The Minister of Antiquities shall submit the work reports.
