The 74th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 74) is set to kick off on 24 September 2019 at the UN Headquarters in New York.

The theme of the general debate will be, ‘Galvanizing multilateral efforts for poverty eradication, quality education, climate action and inclusion.”

Egypt is participating in the session in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, carrying an agenda full of important international, regional and national issues.

The State Information Service SIS said that since El Sisi, assumed power in 2014, he was keen to regularly attend all meetings of the UN General Assembly, thus becoming the first Egyptian president to attend six consecutive summits of the UNGA.

El-Sisi's keenness to participate in the UNGA annual meetings refers to the great importance of these gatherings in shaping most international relations, peace and security issues and facing regional and international conflicts.

The UNGA meetings also tackle combating terrorism and extremism files, sustainable development, education and eradicating poverty, health and international cooperation in disease control, climate issues, etc.

El-Sisi is set to give a speech at the UNGA 74 on Egypt's vision regarding recent international and regional updates, particularly in the fields of maintaining international security and peace, counter-terrorism, extremism, as well as African issues.

Furthermore, El-Sisi is expected to meet with several world leaders and heads of governments, on the sidelines of UNGA 74, to discuss bolstering mutual relations and exchanging expertise on issues of common interest.

"Therefore, senior leaders in recent years have been racing to present their countries' positions, to pursue whatever is in the national interests of their people, to strengthen their role in the context of international relations that have already been collectively managed after the end of the bipolar era, and the failure of attempts to unite a force or even a limited number of international powers impose their role, will and vision on the international system.

According to the SIS analysis, El-Sisi’s presence at the UNGA this year has additional implications, derived from Egypt's presidency of the African Union, in doubling his responsibility towards African issues, about which, he talked in the last five meetings of the General Assembly.

The SIS added that the African file would be given great interest at the UNGA 74, whose agenda includes a main item entitled “New Partnership for Africa's Development.”

The UNGA 74 will also review the progress achieved in Africa, in addition to the important achievements made in this regard, including the enforcement of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

El-Sisi participated in a number of global events and gatherings, such as the Munich Security Conference and called for Africa's right to peace, security and stability to achieve sustainable development for its people.

He also participated in the EU-Africa summit in Austria, where he called for a fair partnership between the two parties, followed by the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan and the G7 summit in France, where the president called for mobilizing international support for African development.

In addition to his participation in TICAD conference in Japan, in which, El-Sisi focused on the importance of enhancing development projects in Africa.

The African peoples’ confidence in President Sisi’s ability and his sincerity in talking about the interests of all Africa countries has been doubled.
