Egypt's Sisi Arrives in New York for UNGA 74

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi arrived on Saturday morning in New York to participate in the 74th General Assembly of the United Nations (UNGA 74).

According to a statement released by the Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Radi, President Sisi is scheduled to give a speech before the UNGA on Wednesday.

“Sisi will touch Egypt’s vision, achievements and stances towards regional and international situations that are discussed, especially in terms of global peace and security,” said Radi.

 

Sisi, Trump meet on sidelines of UNGA 74 

“President Sisi will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump, in addition to key political, congressional and economic figures in the American administration,” Radi added.

Radi noted that Sisi’s speech will also tackle international efforts to counter terrorism and extremist thoughts, besides economic, social and development fields and Africans affairs in his capacity as the chairman of the African Union.

In a related regard, dozens of Egyptian community members in NYC were seen gathering in the streets, carrying Egyptian flags to welcome President Sisi.

The president will deliver Egypt's speech at the UNGA meetings taking up the Egyptian vision for enhancing the role of the UN and Egypt's stances on regional and international conditions along with its efforts for fighting international terrorism.

In 2018, the president chaired the high-level meeting of the Group of 77 that was held under Egypt for the third time in its history.

He met  U.S. political and intellectual figures, Congressmen, heads of major companies and investment funds and members of the American Chamber of Commerce.

Sisi also attended the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit, which coincided with the centennial celebration of the late African leader's birthday.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in New York to prepare for Sisi’s participation in the UNGA 74 high level meetings, the ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said on Thursday.

Hafez emphasized that Egypt will take part in a number of important summits and ministerial meetings on the sidelines of the General Assembly meetings.

The first day of the high-level General Debate will be September 24. President Sisi will be among the first heads of state to address the session.

Hafez added that the Egyptian participation in the UNGA session will reflect the country’s important role in the UN bodies along with its regional role in all relevant issues.

Noteworthy, many topics tops the UN session agenda including: Security and peace, climate change, human rights, sustainable development as well as many other branching items such as economic growth, the advancement of women, armed conflict, the Palestinian cause, atomic radiation, outer space, Africa’s development, humanitarian assistance efforts, justice, international law, disarmament, drug control, crime prevention and combating terrorism.
