The Grand Egyptian Museum and the Giza Pyramids welcomed H.E. Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore, along with the First Lady and their accompanying delegation, as part of their official visit to Egypt.
At the Grand Egyptian Museum, they were received by Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Museum Authority, who extended a warm welcome and presented them with a miniature replica of the golden mask of King Tutankhamun.
The delegation was then guided by Ms. Basma Youssef, from the Public Relations and Protocol Department, on a tour that included the museum’s outdoor plaza, the Grand Hall, the Grand Staircase, and its 12 main galleries. The exhibits showcased the story of ancient Egyptian civilization, spanning from the Early Dynastic Period through the Greco-Roman era.
President Shanmugaratnam and his delegation expressed their deep admiration and appreciation for the Grand Egyptian Museum, praising its remarkable collection of artifacts, the uniqueness of its treasures, and the exceptional quality of its display and presentation.
Following the museum tour, the President and his delegation visited the Giza Pyramids, where they were welcomed by Dr. Ashraf Mohie El-Din, Director-General of Giza Antiquities. He accompanied them on a tour of the archaeological site, which included the Great Pyramid, where they learned about its history and the vast number of stones used in its construction. They also visited the Great Sphinx, where the history and carving techniques of the monument were highlighted, as well as the Panorama area, offering views of the site’s most prominent landmarks.
The President expressed his admiration for the grandeur of ancient Egyptian civilization and the ingenious architectural and engineering achievements behind the construction of the pyramids, noting in particular their impressive scale.
The visit concluded with the President and his delegation capturing memorable photographs at the Giza Plateau to commemorate this special occasion.
