Simu Liu pitched Melissa Barrera to be the next Wonder Woman, calling her dedication to stunt training “Wonder Woman-esque.”

During a recent interview with JoBlo, the "Copenhagen Test" actor recently praised his co-star's combat skills and went so far as to shout out the DC Studios boss with the fantasy casting.

“She really pushes herself,” Liu said of Barrera. “I don’t know who might be listening to this interview, James Gunn or anybody else out there. But I think she really pushes herself. There were a couple of moments during stunt training where I was like, ‘That’s Wonder Woman-esque.’ I’m just throwing it out there.”

"The Copenhagen Test" stars Liu as intelligence agent Alexander Hale, whose mind is hacked by a mysterious enemy using the intel to bring down his agency.

In conversation with Deadline on their Peacock spy thriller series, Liu called his co-star “a spectacular action star in the making,” recalling their fight scene from the show.

“After the whole season and after all the training that she had been through, Melissa was looking really sharp as a fighter, and so, she came to set and she was just ready to come to blows,” he said. “And it was really fun just to get to play that with her, and I’m really proud of what we did too. I’m really proud of her. She did a lot, most, if not all of her own stunts, and she’s just the best.”

In June 2025, DC Studios boss James Gunn confirmed there was a new Wonder Woman movie “being written right now.”

The film comes in addition to an upcoming HBO series about Wonder Woman’s homeland of Themyscira, which Gunn explained is “slow-moving, but it’s moving.”
