Simu Liu Joins Movie "Barbie"

Canadian actor Simu Liu has recently joined the cast of Warner Bros' Barbie movie.

The live-action movie features Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken.

Greta Gerwig will direct the project, which she co-wrote along with Noah Baumbach.

Robbie is also producing the movie through her LuckyChap production company alongside LuckyChap’s Tom Ackerley.

The movie will also be produced by Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner and Paddington’s David Heyman.

The plot details about the upcoming project are kept under wraps.

The Barbie project dates back all the way to 2009, with Sony originally lining up Diablo Cody to write the script in 2014. Two years later, Amy Schumer was cast for the titular role from a script by Hilary Winston.

However, the project remained in development until Warner Bros. and Robbie picked it up in 2018, originally aiming for Patty Jenkins on directing duties.

“Barbie” is slated to begin production in early 2022 at the Warner Bros. Leavesden studio in London. It will hit theaters sometime in 2023.
