Tension arose between Egyptian superstar, Sherine Abdel-Wahab and the Arab world's largest independent record label Rotana after she accused them of delaying the release of her songs in a recent interview following her concert in Kuwait.
Sherine addressed the developments in the crisis between her and the production company, confirming their dispute has not yet ended despite her payment of EGP 8 million to the company.
"The dispute will be renewed again after the delay in releasing the songs that were recorded a long time ago," Sherine said in a statement. "The production company requires the superstar to present concerts only in the current period and that the concerts will be contracted through the company only."
Sherine also disclosed that the reason behind her hysterical state in Kuwait was due to the delay in the release of her new work, which depends on the production company.
In February, Rotana dropped the superstar‘s latest single “El Dahab” on its YouTube channel.
The single is by the lyrics of Tamer Hussien and composed by Madian. It marks the superstar's first music in a long period as well as her first since splitting up from her ex-husband Hossam Habib.
Sherine, born on October 8, 1980, was first discovered as a child by her music teacher at school, who convinced her mother to take her to the Cairo Opera House to meet veteran musician Selim Sahab.
The acclaimed singer auditioned in front of him, who liked her voice a lot. She had served as a choral member at the Cairo Opera House from the age of nine to twelve and then was given a chance to become a solo singer.
Sherine kept performing at the Cairo Opera House while looking for a music producer to launch her professional career.
Abdel-Wahab, 18, was introduced to director and music producer Nasr Mahrous, who liked her talented voice and decided to collaborate with her via “Free Music” production company, where she met with superstar, Tamer Hosny, who was also a new talent-seeking opportunity. Her first recorded song was released in 2002 as a part of an album that included works of other artists.
The album was released, under the title “Free Mix3: Tamer and Sherine” and was a big hit all across the entire Middle East and North Africa. The album sold more than 20 Million copies across the whole MENA.
It was a big hit, particularly because of her single “Ah ya Leil”, which boosted her fame.
