Egyptian superstar, Sherine Abdel-Wahab made history by claiming No.1 on the Billboard Arabic Artist 100 chart for 11 consecutive weeks, starting from March 16, 2024.

Abdel Wahab's was also added to the Guinness Book of World Records as the first female Arab artist to remain on the most popular song lists for the longest period.

According to Guinness World Records, the singer topped the first four editions of the chart (16 December 2023 to 6 January 2024) and returned to No.1 on 3 February 2024, where she has remained ever since.

Egyptian megastar Amr Diab, is the only other artist to reach No.1, crowning the list for three weeks on 13-27 January 2024.

Guinness World Records added the popularity of songs such as "Kalam Eneih", "Al Watar Al Hassas" and the viral Tiktok sensation "Sabry Alil" - respectively ranked first, second and sixth when the Billboard Arabic Hot 100 launched on 16 December 2023 - have contributed to Sherine's domination of the Artist 100.

The cross-genre Billboard Arabic Artist 100 chart ranks the week's most popular Arabic artists based on streaming activity from more than 200 territories around the world, including the MENA region, as tracked by Luminate.

Born on October 8, 1980, Sherine was first discovered as a child by her music teacher at school, who convinced her mother to take her to the Cairo Opera House to meet veteran musician Selim Sahab.

The acclaimed singer auditioned in front of him, who liked her voice a lot. She had served as a choral member at the Cairo Opera House from the age of nine to twelve and then was given a chance to become a solo singer.

Sherine kept performing at the Cairo Opera House while looking for a music producer to launch her professional career.

Abdel-Wahab, 18, was introduced to director and music producer Nasr Mahrous, who liked her talented voice and decided to collaborate with her via “Free Music” production company, where she met with superstar, Tamer Hosny, who was also a new talent-seeking opportunity. Her first recorded song was released in 2002 as a part of an album that included works of other artists.

The album was released, under the title “Free Mix3: Tamer and Sherine” and was a big hit all across the entire Middle East and North Africa. The album sold more than 20 Million copies across the whole MENA.

It was a big hit, particularly because of her single “Ah ya Leil”, which boosted her fame.
