Sharjah Public Libraries is celebrating its 100th anniversary at the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair, highlighting a century of cultural service and the emirate’s deep-rooted connection with books and learning.
Founded in 1925 as a private library in Sharjah Fort, the institution has grown into a network of six branches across the emirate’s major cities, housing more than 800,000 books in multiple languages, alongside digital collections, research facilities, and year-round community programs.
Ghith Al Hosani, from the events and programs team, said the centennial offers “an opportunity to showcase the library’s role in enriching readers’ experiences and supporting education,” noting the vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi in shaping its development.
