Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the third Sharjah International Conference on Arabic Studies in Europe opened Saturday at the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre.
Held under the theme “Orientalists’ Contributions to the Arabic Language,” the conference gathered 24 scholars and academics from 19 European countries to present studies across four main themes: the migration of Arabic words into other languages, methodologies for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, the translation of Arabic literature and its global impact, and the authentication of Arabic and Islamic heritage.
Dr. Mohammed Safi Al Mosteghimi, Secretary-General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, welcomed participants, noting that the conference fosters meaningful East–West dialogue and deepens understanding of Arabic’s role in world languages and cultures. The sessions highlighted the linguistic influence of Arabic across Europe, translation as cultural diplomacy, and innovative approaches to teaching Arabic internationally.
