American singer-actress Selena Gomez became the most followed woman on Instagram with 401 million followers.

Gomez achieved this milestone just three months after returning to the social platform, surpassing Kylie Jenner, who previously held the title with 382 million followers.

In a 2021 interview with Vogue, the singer revealed that she deleted the photo-sharing app from her phone in 2019 after it started to affect her mental health.

"At one point Instagram became my whole world, and it was really dangerous," Gomez told InStyle in 2022.

In her latest post, the "Only Murders in the Building" actor shared two makeup-free selfies with the caption "Violet chemistry," a reference to the song of the same name on Miley Cyrus's eighth studio album, "Endless Summer." Gomez's post promotes the idea of self-love and being comfortable in one's own skin.

The singer’s experience with Instagram highlighted the potential dangers of social media and the importance of taking a break from it when necessary.

"Taking a break from social media was the best decision that I've ever made for my mental health," Gomez explained.

She added: "The unnecessary hate and comparisons went away once I put my phone down. I'll have moments where that weird feeling will come back, but now I have a much better relationship with myself.”
