"Seiddi Shebl" Mosque Inaugurated in Menoufia after Renovation

Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities participated Friday in the inauguration of the project for the restoration and maintenance of "Seiddi Shebl" Mosque in Menoufia Governorate.

Regarding the restoration project, Hisham Samir, Assistant Minister of Tourism for Antiquities and Museums Projects explained that the implementation of the project began from July 2021 to May 2023.

He pointed out that the works included treating ceilings and floors, restoring and maintaining walls, woodwork, which is represented in the pulpit and the Quran chair, in addition to raising the efficiency of lighting network in the mosque, maintaining the facades, treating and completing the stucco windows, installing a rainwater drainage system, and rehabilitating the general site of the mosque and the shrine.

On his part, Said Abu Bakr Ahmed Abdullah, who is in charge of managing the work of the Islamic, Coptic and Jewish antiquities sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities said that the mosque is attributed to the Muhammad bin Fadl ibn Abbas, whoes father was the cousin of prophet Muhammad.

He was sent by Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib, on the head of an army command to Egypt, where he was martyred at the site of the shrine.

The Fatimids were keen to establish a shrine and a mosque adjacent to his grave.
