After Killing of 22 people in the Cancer Institute Terrorist Attack, central Cairo, on Sunday, SEE sheds light on Hasm Movement’s terrorist acts carried out in Egypt in the last five years.

Few hours after the booby-car blast in Manial district, the ministry of interior issued a statement revealing that Hasm movement is behind that attack, labeled terrorist not just an accident.

The year of 2014 witnessed the foundation of that terrorist movement.

Two years later, the pro-Muslim Brotherhood group movement uncovered itself, following a failed assassination attempt against Egypt’s cleric Ali Gomaa. He is Egypt’s former Grand Mufti.

Black History Full of Terrorism

HASM is derived from initials of Arabic letters of the Movement of Egypt’s Arms (uttered as Haraket Sawaed Masr).

Thus, the movement redrew the map of militant organizations in the country, as part of a new generation emerging from the banned Brotherhood group.

Accordingly, lights were shed on HASM after it claimed responsibility for the assassination attempt of the former Mufti in Six October City, west of Cairo. The operation was described as primitive. Only four of the group's members carried out the operation and used 58 bullets from their machine guns.

Moreover, the movement justified the failure of its operation by saying: "Our fear for injuring innocent people prevented us from succeeding but next time, he will not get away".

Surprisingly, the movement sets its objective as "liberating our great people from the injustice of the oppressive military machine and its treacherous militias", according to the movement's first military statement.

It pledged that its elements would not leave "the battlefield except when they are victorious or martyrs".

In brief, here are the most significant terrorist attacks by HASM;

  • Opening fire at a policeman called Salah Hassan in Six October City in Sept. 2016
  • Setting an explosive device before the Police Club in Damietta on Sept. 4, 2016
  • Attack on a police ambush in Monofiya governorate on August. 21, 2016
  • A failed assassination attempt against Former Mufti Ali Gomaa
  • Targeting the convoy of Counselor Zakaria Abdel Aziz, Assistant Attorney General
  • Blasts in the vicinity of Al-Salam Mosque in Haram district, killing a number of policemen
  • Involving in the National Cancer Institute Blast in August, 2019
