Cancer Institute Terrorist Blast Draws Global Condemnation

An explosives-laden car belonging to Hasm terrorist group blew up late Sunday, outside The National cancer institute in Al-Manial neighbourhood, resulting in the death of 20 people and the injury of 48 others.

It is considered as one of the deadliest terror incidents in years in the Egyptian capital.

The Interior Ministry Statement     

Egypt’s interior ministry revealed on Monday that the deadly blast took place when an explosives-filled car collided with three other vehicles near the National Cancer Institute.

The car was reported stolen from Al-Menoufiya province several months ago, according to the ministry.

The Ministry said that the vehicle was on its way to carry out a terrorist operation, although the target of the planned attack remains unclear.

Moreover, the ministry announced that Hasm terrorist group, which is affiliated with the banned Muslim Brotherhood, was behind the blast.

The Arab and Western States' Condemnation

A large number of Arab and Western countries decried cancer hospital brutal blast including: Saudi Arabia, United Arabs Emirates (UAE), Palestine, US Embassy in Cairo, and European Union (EU).

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman offered condolences on Tuesday for the victims of terrorist blast in Egypt.

The Saudi King condemned "in the strongest terms this criminal act" and affirmed Saudi Arabia's "support for Egypt and its brotherly people."

Moreover, the crown prince denounced the "cowardly criminal act" expressing his "deepest and sincere condolences" for the dead victims and wished quick recovery to the injured.

UAE

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an official statement that this heinous act of terrorism contradicts with all religious and humanitarian values and principles.

The ministry expressed the UAE’s condolences to the families of the victims, wishing speedy recovery of the injured. It also stressed that this criminal act aims at undermining Egypt’s security and stability.

The ministry renewed the UAE’s firm position against terrorism, regardless of its sources and motives.

Palestine

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas strongly decried the terrorist blast, saying that he believes Egypt would overcome all difficulties and be successful in fighting against terrorism.

US Embassy in Cairo

The US embassy in Cairo has denounced this tragic terrorist bombing.

In its official account on “Facebook” the embassy wrote, "We stand with Egypt in its fight against terrorism and we extend our condolences to the families of the victims and wish for a speedy recovery to those who were wounded.”

The European Union (EU)

European Union (EU) ambassador to Egypt Ivan Surkos denounced the terrorist blast, reiterating The EU’s solidarity with Egypt in the fight against terrorism.

"I strongly condemn this deplorable terrorist act that caused the death of 20 innocent people and the injury of 50," Surkos tweets.

“EU stands side by side with Egypt," he added.
