Sebastian Kurz, the Austrian chancellor, revealed on Saturday his plans to step down after being involved in a  corruption case's investigation related to his party.

He added that he already submitted the proposal of quitting his position, and he also recommended Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg to replace him.

The Chancellor asked his party to nominate another “irreproachable person” to take the position.

Next, he commented on the latest accusations, saying that they “are false and I will be able to clear this up – I am deeply convinced of that”.

Moreover, Kurz asserted: 'What we need now are stable conditions,” adding: “So, in order to resolve the stalemate, I want to make way to prevent chaos and ensure stability.”

In the same context, the leader of the Greens party and the Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler welcomed the decision made by Kurz, describing it as "a right and important step.”

The current coalition headed by the chancellor was formed in 2020, after the collapse of the first coalition back in 2019.

Currently, Kurz looks forward to continuing his political career as a leader of the parliamentary group of the People’s party’.

It is worthy to mention that the upcoming parliamentary elections are scheduled for 2024.
